There are different methods of selling a house in New Zealand, some of which allow buyers to have more influence on the price based on competition.
If you wish to list your home for sale, you can still access sales by fixed price, by negotiation, by auction or by tender. A seller can, of course, use more than one method of sale, especially if the first attempt doesn’t get the results they’re looking for.

Promotion Period: The period between 12:00am NZST 1 May 2025 to 11:59pm NZST 25 July 2025.
Definitions:
Appraisal: A valid sales appraisal conducted by an LJ Hooker Franchisee.
Listings: A valid listing with an LJ Hooker Franchisee.
LJ Hooker Franchisee: a qualified real estate agent authorised to operate within the LJ Hooker franchise network, as may be located at the website: https://www.ljhooker.co.nz/find-an-agent.
Agency Agreement: means an executed, written contract with an LJ Hooker Franchisee for the provision of property sales services that is compliant with all legislation and regulations relevant to the conduct of a real estate agent in the location of the property.
Eligible Entrants: Entry is only open to New Zealand residents who are 18 years and over and own at least one (1) residential property in New Zealand and who are not:
No entry fee is charged by the Promoter to enter the Promotion. Where entry is allowed online, there is no additional cost to enter the Promotion other than any cost paid by the entrant to access the website or social media platform of entry via their Internet service provider.
To enter the Promotion, Eligible Entrants must, during the Promotion Period:
Own at least one (1) residential, rural, lifestyle or commercial property in New Zealand; and
Book and complete an Appraisal for a residential property they own with an LJ Hooker Franchisee; or
Sign an agency agreement with a LJ Hooker Franchisee; or
Sign a legally binding sale and purchase agreement on the eligible property.
Each Eligible Entrant who book and complete an appraisal, list and /or sells during the promotion period will be entered int the Prize Draw.
Entries Permitted:
Eligible Entrants will receive entries based on the following actions for each property they own, regardless of property type (e.g., residential, rural, lifestyle, commercial):
Each entry must be submitted in accordance with the entry requirements outlined in these Terms and Conditions.
Multiple entries are permitted per Eligible Entrant, with each unique property qualifying for up to five (5) total entries (1 for appraisal, +2 for listing, +2 for selling), provided all conditions are met.
Prize Draw:
All eligible entries will be entered into an electronic random draw conducted on August 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM NZDT at LJ Hooker Group premises, Level 17, 15 Customs Street West, Commercial Bay, Auckland 1010.
One participant will be randomly selected as the “Selected Entrant” and notified as per the notification process outlined in these Terms and Conditions.
The Selected Entrant must participate in a final prize selection event within 14 days of notification, choosing one of the following options:
The 100 envelopes will be prepared by Carter Briggs Hurle Limited. One envelope contains a winning card entitling the Selected Entrant to the prize (Next Gen 2025 Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R 4WD W/S, valued at $63,990). The remaining 99 envelopes contain non-winning cards.
If the Selected Entrant chooses the envelope with the winning card, they will be declared the winner and awarded the prize. If a non-winning card is selected, no prize will be awarded, and no further draws will occur.
The final selection event (in-person or virtual) will be conducted under the supervision of an LJ Hooker representative and an independently appointed overseer, and the outcome is final and binding.
Unclaimed Prize Draw:
If the Prize is not claimed by the winner of the Prize Draw in accordance with the Terms and Conditions, an unclaimed prize draw will be held on 11th September 2025 at the same time and place as the original Prize Draw. All Qualifying Entries (except the Qualifying Entry drawn in the Prize Draw) will be entered in the unclaimed prize draw and one (1) Qualifying Entry will be randomly drawn.
Winner Notification and Claiming the Prize:
The Promoter will, within 2 business days of the Prize Draw on August 7, 2025, notify the Selected Entrant in writing by email via the email address provided as part of the Qualifying Entry. The Selected Entrant must confirm their availability to attend either in-person or virtual for the final prize selection within 14 days of being notified, by responding in writing to marketingnz@ljhooker.com.
If the Selected Entrant selects the winning envelope, the Promoter will arrange for the Prize to be handed over at the local LJ Hooker office within 28 days of the selection event, subject to the winner providing any necessary documentation (e.g., identification, proof of residency).
Unclaimed Prize Process
If the Selected Entrant fails to claim the Prize opportunity in accordance with the above (i.e., by not confirming availability within 14 days or not attending the final selection), they will be deemed to have forfeited their chance, and the Promoter will conduct an Unclaimed Prize Draw.
The Promoter will notify the winner of the Unclaimed Prize Draw in writing by email, via the email address provided as part of the Qualifying Entry, within 2 business days of the redraw. The winner of the Unclaimed Prize Draw must confirm their availability to attend in-person or virtual for the final prize selection within 4 days of being notified by responding in writing to marketingnz@ljhooker.com. The same prize selection process (choosing from 100 envelopes) will apply, with the Prize handed over within 28 days of the selection event if won.
Publication of Winners
The name (surname and initial of first name) and postcode and/or region of residence of the Selected Entrant (and the winner, if they select the winning envelope) will be published on https://www.ljhooker.co.nz/ within 2 business days of the Prize Draw on August 7, 2025, and/or the Unclaimed Prize Draw, if applicable.

Winner Notification:
The winner will be notified by via phone on the same day as the draw (09/06/23).
The winner’s details will be published at www.ljhooker.co.nz and on social media by 13/06/23
Unclaimed Prizes:
Prizes must be claimed by 13 June 2023 at 1:00 pm NZST.
In the event of an unclaimed prize, the prize will be redrawn Unit G14, Zone 23, 23 Edwin Street, Mt Eden on 14 June 2023 at 2:30 pm NZST.
The winner will be notified publicly (and their details published) and the winner will be published at ljhooker.co.nz within 3 days of the redraw.
PRIZES
No part of the prize is exchangeable, redeemable for cash or any other prize or transferable.
Subject to the terms and conditions of the participating prize provider(s), if for any reason the winner does not, once the prize has been booked, take the prize (or an element of the prize) at the time stipulated, then the prize (or that element of the prize) will be forfeited and will not be redeemable for cash.
If a prize is provided to the Promoter by a third party, the prize is subject to the terms and conditions of the third party prize supplier and the provision of the prize is the sole responsibility of the third party and not the Promoter. The terms and conditions which apply to the prize at the time it is issued to the winner will prevail over these Conditions of Entry, to the extent of any inconsistency.
The Promoter accepts no responsibility or liability for any claim, action or delay arising from this competition or any delay or failure by the third party to deliver the prize, any delay or failure relating to the prize itself or failure by the third party to meet any of its obligations in these Conditions of Entry or otherwise.
